The first thing you'll need to do if you are looking to send floorboards Through The Mail to basketball players, is go to Home Depot and pick up a carton of trafficMaster Original

If you flip the boards over, you will notice that they are actually made up of 4 - 6" x 6" blocks which are glued together.

The first thing you will need to do, is soften up the glue to make it easier to pry apart the 6" x 6" squares.
You can achieve this by using a hair dryer and running it over the glued joints.

Once the glue has been softened, it will be easier to use a knife to cut through the glue to facilitate the separation of the individual floorboard pieces.
Be careful to not cut too deep, all you need to do is cut the glue seals at the joints so the pieces can separate.

Once you have the glue softened and cut, move the board to the edge of a table, and GENTLY rock the board back and forth until you can safely pull the pieces apart.
Make sure you apply pressure on the middle of the board with one hand, while using the other to rock back and forth.
You've got 40 pieces to work with, so feel free to try different approaches. You'll break your share of boards in the beginning, but you'll eventually get the hang of it.

For your SASE you can simply use a CD and DVD bubble mailers, which measure 7-1/4" x 7-1/4" and will easily fit your 6" x 6" floorboard.
The Pull & Seal closure makes it easy for the player to seal the envelope without having to lick a gummed envelope and simply drop it in the mail.

If you would like to get a little creative with you floorboards, I've played around with placing a trading card to the floorboard.
I used Elmer's Ultimate High Performance Glue, which will bond just about anything.
Once the card is glued to the floorboard, and the glue has dried, I apply a thin coat of Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish over the card and floorboard.
It usually dries in about 2 hours, and if you'd like, you can apply a second coat.
Once this is finished it gives the floorboard added strength, and can be signed.
Blue Sharpie looks great on the floorboard, but black sharpie looks fine also.
