Inscription: Alex, my major league debut with the Big Red Machine - Against the Los Angeles Dodgers we were in a blowout game and I was to finish up the ninth inning down 9 to 1. First Pitch in the Big Leagues I drilled Steve Garvey in the head. True Story, after the inning all the players one by one came to me on the bench and gave a high five for knocking him down.
Of course I hit him by accident but the other guys thought I was sending the Dodgers a message. "Don't dig in against the Reds and don't throw tight to our guys. The truth is - I was scared to death and clueless where the ball was going after it left my hand...
Alex, good luck to you - Baseball will teach you that like life - it's a game of mini failures, and it's how we deal with them that makes ourcharacter. Best Always Jay
