TORONTO ACE HALLADAY NOT ON DL ... FOR NOW SportingNews [06/13/2009]

For
Roy Halladay fans and fantasy owners, there's good news and bad news.
The good news: At least for now, Halladay isn't going on thedisabled list, according to MLB.com. An
MRIexam performed on the ace on Saturday confirmed he has a mild right groinstrain.
Halladay (10-1) left the game Friday night against Florida in the thirdinning. He tried to throw a warm-up pitch after the injury and opted to leavethe game.
Meanwhile, his next scheduled start has been pushed back afew days. Toronto altered its rotation, givingHalladay more rest by penciling him in for Saturday at Washington instead of Thursday at Philly.
Nowthe bad news: Apparently, Blue Jays manager
Cito Gaston isn't 100 percent confident in a quick return.
"It sounds good because it's day-to-day instead ofmonth-to-month," Gaston said.
Gaston could sit Halladay on Saturday, even if Halladay tellshis manager he's fine. Keep track of Halladay's scheduled starts here on the
Fastball blogand with FantasySource's
Projected Starter's Grid.
Here are a couple other notes from Saturday:
John Smoltz, SP/RP, Boston. The Red Sox will wait to decide what to do with Smoltz. Smoltz is in a "holding pattern" after meeting with managerTerry Francona and pitching coach John Farrell on Saturday, according to the Boston Globe. He'llpitch somewhere on Thursday, but it may not be with the Red Sox.His 30-day rehab assignment comes to an end on Friday. You'll have to wait a little longer before putting Smoltz back in your lineup.
Johnny Damon, LF, Boston. Damon
returned theYankees' lineup Saturday, a day after complaining of eye trouble. Damondropped a routine fly ball Thursday at Bostonand reportedly said his eyes were "fluttering," Yankees manager JoeGirardi said. Damon said a doctor told him caffeine can cause eye trouble andsuggested to avoid coffee and energy drinks for a while. Guess he won't bedoing commercials for Folgers or Red Bull anytime soon.
David Ortiz, DH, Boston. DespiteOrtiz's hot streak in June (.313 BA, three HRs, seven RBIs), he was out ofSaturday's lineup vs. interleague foe Philadelphia.
Kevin Youkilis got the nod at firstbase. Apparently manager
Terry Franconaconsidered playing Ortiz and moving Youkilis to third base to give
MikeLowell the day off. Here's the upcoming interleague schedule for the Sox: @Philly (Saturday, Sunday); vs. Florida, Atlanta (June 16-21); at Washington,Atlanta (June23-28).
