Prince Fielder got the ball back from his first career grand slam when a fan at Progressive Field threw it into Milwaukee's bullpen. Everything just seemed to work out for the Brewers slugger on Monday night. Fielder hit his 16th homer after two Indians relievers combined to walk the bases loaded and Milwaukee rallied for a 14-12 victory over Cleveland.
Turning a fantasy eye toward Monday night's action:
3 Up
1. Prince Fielder, 1B, Brewers. A slow start in April when Fielder batted .234 seems like years ago now. Fielder's latest feat in a red-hot run in May and June included going 2-for-3 with a grand slam and six RBIs in Monday's win against the Indians, boosting his average to .295 this season. Teammate Ryan Braun also had a big night on offense with three hits, four runs scored and five RBIs and is batting .319.
2. Pablo Sandoval, 1B/3B, Giants. Sandoval has been on a tear this month, batting .417 with five home runs and 13 RBIs. Two of those big flies came in last night's loss to the Angels, when he went 2-for-4 and had four RBIs. He continues to see time at first base to rest a sore elbow, but it isn't affecting him at the plate, obviously.
3. John Lackey, SP, Angels. Lackey bounced back from his worst outing of the season to even his record at 2-2. It wasn't perfect as Lackey allowed 10 hits in seven innings, but he didn't walk anyone, allowed just three runs and struck out 10. His next outing will be against the Dodgers.
3 Down
1. Dave Bush, SP, Brewers. Bush had his shortest outing of the season Monday against the Indians, allowing eight runs on six hits and two walks in 3.1 innings. His ERA and WHIP jumped up to 5.31 and 1.31, respectively. He has been pretty bad in road games (5.89 ERA, 1.42 WHIP) but only average at home (4.79, 1.21).
2. Carl Pavano, SP, Indians. Monday's start versus Milwaukee provided every reason why you can't trust Pavano despite his six wins. He simply got hit hard with nine hits and six runs in five innings. He has allowed 15 runs in his past 9.2 innings. It's time to start trolling the waiver wire for his replacement in mixed leagues.
3. Jhonny Peralta, SS/3B, Indians. When you see that Peralta was in a 14-12 game, you don't expect to read the box score and find out he went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts. Or maybe you do considering that it has been disappointing season for Peralta, who is on pace for just five home runs this season. Is there hope? Perhaps a .279 average after the All-Star break the past three years offers some.
