Many people enjoy this hobby for various reasons. I use it as a way to bond with my son and one of the unexpected benefits are the friendships that are forged with fellow collectors, who enjoy the same hobby we do.

Collecting Autographs Through the Mail is one of the most enjoyable hobbies. Once you start collecting, something as simple as getting the mail, becomes a daily enjoyable experience. Santa Claus only comes once a year, but the man in the mail truck comes up to 6 times a week!

After coming home one day and going to check the mailbox for any TTM successes, I noticed a cardboard tube waiting for me. When I opened it, it contained a Jose Tabatha signed baseball bat. The bat was sent from fellow collector Chad who runs www.sportsautosttm.com.

When I got back into collecting autographs through the mail, and decided to set up this website, Chad was the first person who let other collector's know I was "Out There" by displaying the link to my site on his links page. We've exchanged emails with collecting info back and forth, and I've lent my web development experience to help him make changes to his site.

There are many aspects of this hobby that are enjoyable. By now everyone knows about the 2007 Topps Derek Jeter error card featuring the unlikely trio of Derek Jeter, George Bush and Mickey Mantle. When I woke up this morning and turned on the news, I thought it was funny to see that George Bush was getting bashed yet again by the media, while Derek Jeter got his 2,416th career hit in a Yankees uniform passing Mickey Mantle, the other visitor pictured on his 2007 Topps Card.

Jeter had a third-inning RBI single, and passed Yankees Legend Mickey Mantle to move into sole possession of third place all-time in Yankees history, as he continues his quest to become the Yankees All-Time Hit Leader.

I've gotten a lot of emails asking me how to set up a TTM site. My day job involves building websites from the ground up, but I wanted to researched the various free solutions out there, and have detailed what I found to be the easiest way for collectors to set up their own site to share their success info.

SCANNING YOUR SUCCESSES

I suggest purchasing a scanner as opposed to simply taking pictures of your custom Index Card, or baseball card successes. They will look a lot better when displayed on your site, and won't have the harsh flash "Hot Spot" on your successes. You'll also avoid getting that "Warped" look when you tilt the camera at an angle. You can find a decent scanner for under $100. I'd suggest getting a USB powered scanner which means there's one less power cord going into your outlets. Newegg.com has a Canon CanoScan LIDE90 for $69.99.

SETTING UP A BLOG

Blogger.com is owned by google, and it's free to sign up. The advantage of setting up a blogger account as opposed to signing up with some of the free websites is that it has everything that Search Engines need to find your site already in place. And since it's owned by Google, which is the top search engine, chances are people will find your site a lot easier.

EDITING YOUR PICTURES

Picasa is also owned by Google, and it's free to download. It lets you organize and edit your photos, and since Google owns both Picasa and Blogger, they have set up the ability to upload your pictures from Picasa to your blogger account!

The United States Postal Service (USPS) has hit us with another stamp price increase as of May 12, 2008. The new 1st class stamps are now $0.42 for a first class envelope after the latest price increase.

The Forever Stamps remain the same as the ones issued last year. The only difference is that they now cost you 42 cents. Brewers starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo confirmed that he'll undergo season-ending knee surgery. Yovani Gallardo was gracious enough to sign our Custom Index Card on 06/01/07 while he was still in the minor leagues, and we wish him a speedy recovery.

At 22 years old, he has a bright future ahead of him, after going 9-5 with a 3.67 ERA after being called up last year. He tore his ACL after colliding with Reed Johnson of the Chicago Cubs. Minnesota Twins setup man, and TTM Fan Favorite, Pat Neshek has an "acute partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament" in his elbow, and may be out for the rest of the season. Pat Neshek was gracious enough to sign for us twice last year [01/25/07 and 04/12/07] and we'd like to wish a speedy recovery to an overall great guy, and TTM hero! Get well soon Pat.

Pat Neshek started throwing sidearm in college, after getting hit in the forearm by a pitch in high school, and said he "heard something pop" after throwing a pitch on May 8th in Chicago. He said he won't need surgery, but it's gotta be scary anytime something happens to the "Tommy John Ligament". The ulnar collateral ligament is the same ligament that pitchers have repaired when they undergo tommy john replacement surgery.

Teams such as the Detroit Tigers offer Player Fan Mail for Charity Programs. Jeremy Bonderman and the Detroit Tigers Foundation created a program called Autographs for a cause.

Last year Jeremy Bonderman and Andrew Miller took part in the program, and this year I received an email from a fellow collector, who received a donation request form from Justin Verlander.

Jeremy Bonderman will sign fans baseball cards $10 donation and 8 x 10 photographs $20 donation through the mail. Inscriptions are an additional $5.

Once again injuries hit early in the week, and we were short-handed in our weekly league. As I watched Jimmy Rollins get hurt sliding back to second, his teammate Chase Utley put up monstrous numbers for the week against us (6 Runs / 5 Home Runs / 8 RBI / .391 AVG).

Phillies Second Baseman Chase Utley is trying to become the first second baseman 82 years to lead the majors in home runs. Rogers Hornsby lead the majors in Home Runs with 39 in 1925.
